Uninsured and Underinsured Coverage You will want to make sure that whatever type of insurance you decide to go with, and whatever insurance company you decide to go with that you will be covered in case of uninsured and underinsured motorists. Simply put these types of insurance will help you if you get into an accident with someone who either does not carry enough coverage, or if they do not have any auto insurance at all. So, if you have uninsured motorists coverage you should be covered in case of a hit-and-run driver or someone who just does not have auto insurance of any kind. Many states actually require you to have uninsured motorists coverage. Underinsured motorists coverage will pay for any accidents where the damages caused are more than the other person’s liability coverage. In some states uninsured and underinsured motorists insurance will also pay for any property damages that were involved. There are some states that do not require either uninsured or underinsured motorists coverage. Whereas there are a few states that only require one or the other types of coverage, and there are only a hand full of states that require both types of coverage. If your state does require either type of insurance then you will also need to find out how much coverage you actually want. Deciding how much coverage is right for you, really all just depends on if you have health insurance or not plus if you want to get compensated for pain and suffering, which it is possible to get both with these types of insurance. If you decide that you do not want to get uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage then you may hurt yourself financially. This is mainly because without the protection there will be very few circumstances where you will receive any payment for damages to your vehicle, or for any injuries you or your passengers may have sustained during an accident. If this were to happen you could always try suing the uninsured or underinsured person, but you still may not win any money and you will also be out more money for having to pay for a lawyer. Plus if the person you are suing does not have anything to begin with then even a fair and favorable judge is not going to give you anything. Another thing about uninsured motorist auto insurance is that if you have the coverage, and you are a pedestrian who is hit by a car you will be covered. Your coverage may pay lost wages and your medical expenses. |
